The Project Director of Goa State AIDS Control Society (GSACS), Dr Jose D'Sa has claimed that sustainable goals towards achieving zero AIDS target as set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi can be achieved through Employee Led Model (ELM) district-level consultation meetings for industries, among others.

Addressing a gathering of Human Resources (HR) personnel of various industries at the South Goa Collectorate for an agenda of district-level consultation meeting for industries under ELM, D'Sa termed youth and the industrial sector as a high risk group to be afflicted with the HIV virus. “Such workshops help sensitise the workforce and help in prevention,” he remarked.

Addresing the gathering, South Goa Collector Swapnil Naik, spoke of the stigma associated with AIDS in the past years while claiming that this situation has decreased presently as awareness levels have now grown. Stating that the flip side of Goa's high social indicators is the attraction of the State to migrants, Naik said a lot of activities need to be done to maintain such indicators.

He also expresed concern over the drastically declining sex ratio in Goa despite the prevalence of good social indicators. “Integration of awareness, existing system and comprehensive programme needs to b worked out for this purpose,” he rermarked.

Earlier, welcoming the gathering, Deupty Collector, Ajit Panchwadker, highlighted the need to achieve the goal of a AIDS-less society prior to a cashless society.

The ELM Programme Officer, GSACS, Asha Vernekar proposed the vote of thanks. Project Officer (Monitoring and Evaluation Unit) of GSACS, Dr Priyanka Sarkar compered the function.
