ZP polls: Ballot boxes make comeback, staff get training

As the State Election Commission will use the age-old ballot boxes, which had withstood the test of time, in the March 22 polls, election officials conducted a two-day training session for the staff for the nine Zilla Panchayat constituencies in Salcete.   

Many an election staff got their hands on the ballot boxes for the first time as Salcete Mamlatdar Prataprao Gaonkar explained the polling staff how to go about conducting the ZP poll.   

The two-day training session will train the staff on how to handle the ballot boxes and other matters related to polling day.   

Around 1,500 staff will be deployed for poll duties in the nine ZP constituencies of Guirdolim, Curtorim, Velim, Benaulim, Colva, Nuvem, Raia, Davorlim and Navelim on March 22.   

The Salcete Mamlatdar informed that the two-day training session is aimed at explaining the election staff who will be on duty on election day, how to go about the work.   

“Training session is a normal exercise carried out by the election authorities ahead of an election. Since ballot boxes will be used for the March 22 Zilla Panchayat election, the election staff were explained on how to handle the ballot boxes,” 

he added.
