‘Ghumat to be declared as heritage instrument soon’

PANAJI: Accepting that due to some confusion about the membrane material there was a delay in declaring the ghumat as Goa’s heritage instrument, the Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude said that the government will soon be declaring the ghumat as the state heritage instrument.

It may be recalled that the forest department has banned use of a membrane made up of monitor lizard skin for making the ghumat. Now, skin of other animals like sheep or synthetic material is used.

The minister also spoke about the MOU with Seychelles and Switzerland  countries regarding art and culture.

It may be recalled that Goa has already signed an MOU with Hawaii in September 2018 to enter into a sister-state relationship to promote trade, tourism, IT, exchange of health and wellness, agriculture, culinary art, education, cultural programs between private sector and universities of both states.
