All India Congress Committee secretary Girish Chodankar stated, “The state government has been a party to the entire programme by maintaining silence and allowing it to continue,” Chodankar said. Sadhvi Saraswati has openly asked Union government to hang those people who eat beef. Does she mean that Narendra Modi-led government should hang Christians and several other people from other communities who have been traditionally eating beef”?
Chodankar demanded suo motto cognizance of the speeches and an FIR against Sadhwi. “She should have been stopped from entering the State again and the organizers of such an event should be booked and forthwith stopped from holding such conventions in the state,” he stated.
Chodankar has also questioned the motive behind raising issue of ‘Hindu Nation’ at a convention in Goa and mocked the town and country planning minister Vijai Sardesai for his silence on the issue.
Congress Rajya Sabha member Shantaram Naik at the meeting of the Consultative Committee of Home Affairs presided over by Home Minister Rajnath Singh held in New Delhi on Thursday, voiced strong opposition to the statement of Sadhavi Saraswati.
Naik pointed out that Sadhavi said that beef eating is like eating mother’s meat, and therefore, such people should be hanged in a public square and that, when their body is hung publically, no one will dare to eat beef.
Naik said that Chief Minister Parrikar should take immediate cognizance of Sadhavi’s statement and put her under arrest as, otherwise, it will be presumed that BJP is in agreement with her statement.
Leader of Opposition ‘Babu’ Kavalekar also condemned the statements made at the convention and expressed fear that these speeches will harm the democratic set-up and peaceful social fabric
of Goa.
