Two-wheeler riders, beware. The sewerage manholes in the heart of the commercial capital may land you straight in the hospital for no fault of yours.
For, the manholes of the new sewerage line laid under the JICA scheme has been posing danger to two-wheeler riders, as the agency has left the manholes without restoring the portion of the road surface in the last few days. The problem is restricted on the road in the heart of the commercial capital, where JICA has laid the line, which is awaiting commissioning for quite some time now.
Complaints are galore that many two-wheeler riders had a bumpy ride in the manholes, especially during night time as the agency has failed to restore the manholes with hot-mixed tar. The uneven road surface near the manholes has already resulted in accidents, but JICA officials have still not stepped in to restore the road surface in the interest of pedestrians and two-wheeler riders.
Inquiries by The Goan have revealed that the JICA contractor had opened the manholes to check any leakage of water through the manholes. While the citizens and motorists have nothing against the ongoing exercise, what they have objected is the indifference of the agency to restore the road surface dug up to open the manholes.
A PWD engineer, in-charge of JICA works in the city admitted the manholes indeed poses a risk to the motorists, while saying that instructions will go to the contractor to get the road surface restored at the earliest.
