‘One nation, one ration card’ system in Goa from June

The central government’s “One country, one ration card” scheme will be implemented in Goa and other states from June 1, enabling beneficiaries to buy subsidised foodgrains from ration shops from any part of the country under the National Food Security Act (NFSA).  

Currently, the central government’s ambitious initiative is being implemented on a pilot basis in a cluster of States. It wants to implement this facility across the country from June 1.   

Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said this scheme had already been implemented in the States of AP, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, MP, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Telangana, Tripura, Gujarat, Jharkhand, and Punjab.  

Goa and other states are also expected to implement the “One nation One Ration Card” scheme by June.  

As part of the “One country, one ration card” scheme, eligible beneficiaries would be able to avail their entitled foodgrains under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) from any Fair Price Shop in the country using the same ration card.

First two digits will indicate state code  while the next digit will be the number of ration card; the next  digit will be determined by identity of each family member  
Ration card can be printed in two languages -- one in local language, the other in Hindi or English  
Identity of family member will be through POS and ration will be supplied through 80 million fair price shops
