Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA, Churchill Alemao, has urged Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to ensure that vehicles bringing vegetables and essential items from the neighbouring states are all manned by Goan drivers and cleaners to ensure safety from coronavirus.

Addressing the media, the Benaulim MLA said instead of allowing vehicles coming into the state from Karnataka, the Goa government should send vehicles from the state from the safety point of view. “I am making the suggestion since coronavirus cases have surfaced in the neighbouring states and these vehicles transporting essentials should not carry the virus to Goa,” he said.

Giving a clean chit to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for vigorously pursuing the issue of seafarers with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, Churchill made a fervent plea to the people not to indulge politics on the sensitive issue.

“If everyone thing goes well, Goan seafarers may get some good news on Monday when the ports are opened for disembarkation. The government has planned a three-phase plan to get them back. NRI Director Anthony D’Souza has been working overtime to gather information for the return of the seafarers.”

Churchill said Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has already made 10,000 capacity quarantine facilities for the seafarers once they return to their homeland. “I am indebted to the Chief Minister for taking right decisions for their return. The CM has been working with a cool mind, interacting with the Prime Minister and making correspondence with others.”
