The system that was launched by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology in July has a total of 64 hospitals listed under it. since its launch, there have been a total of six lakh appointments taken on the ORS.
For an initiative that promotes Digital India in the health sector, it comes as a surprise that the GMC has not taken a step forward.
For hospitals having online appointment systems, the requirement is for desktop PCs, printers, internet connectivity and training to the staff members. To facilitate appointments, an ORS back end management system has to be installed and connected to a National Informatics Center (NIC) server so that patients records can be accessed from anywhere in the country.
On a daily basis, the portal gets over a thousand patients booking appointments and since the implementation of the eHospital, there have been a total of 6,34,226 appointments registered.
Under the system, a hospital is listed as an eHospital allows patients to register using their Aadhar cards. Hospitals listed under system works on a Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) where a counter-based Out Patient Department (OPD) registration and appointment system is created.
The online portal allows for patients to request for appointments from different departments of the hospital using a Unique Health Identification (UHID) number linked to the patient’s Aadhaar card. According to the central government rules, patients without an Aadhaar card will also be given a UHID that can later be linked to the card.
