The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday slammed the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for belittling the spontaneous stir seeking justice in the brutal assault of social activist Rama Kankonkar and accused it of issuing threats through official social media posts to intimidate Goans.
AAP leaders addressed a press conference on Saturday where they lashed out at the BJP claiming that it belittled Friday’s protest in Panaji through its official 'X' handle and threatened Goans.
Referring to a tweet from the BJP's 'X' handle, AAP leaders said the “think twice before acting,” on it was nothing short of intimidation of the protesters after panicking post the Friday protests.
AAP's State President Amit Palekar said the BJP has chosen to threaten Goans instead of fixing the law and order problem.
“We protested as Goans, not as politicians. An activist was brutally attacked in the heart of the capital. Tomorrow it could happen to anyone. BJP is rattled, and their white-collared leaders are hiding behind arrogant tweets instead of protecting the people," Palekar said.
"If BJP calls itself a 4 lakh family, they must remember the rest of Goa’s 13 lakh population stands against them. “Bhivpachi Garaz Asa (It’s time for you to be scared),” Palekar said.
AAP General Secretary (Organisation) Shrikrishna Parab ridiculed BJP’s claims of strength demanding to know why the saffron party had to import leaders from other parties all the time.
"Of 12 ministers in the cabinet, 7 are ex-Congress, one is from MGP and only 3 are originally BJP men. It exposes their hollow claim,” Parab said.
The leaders warned the ruling party that Goans will not be silenced by their threats or arrogance adding that the fight is no longer political but a battle against the collapsing law and order under Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
