1 dead in hit, run mishap on NH66 at Dhargal

PERNEM

A 50-year-old motorcyclist died on the spot in a hit and run mishap on the National Highway 66 at Sukekulan flyover in Dhargal on Tuesday afternoon.

Sanjay Jalvi, a resident of Sindhudurg, who worked on a petrol pump, was travelling to Pernem on his motorbike when an unknown vehicle hit him, killing him on the spot at about 3.15 pm.

Locals gathered on the spot after the accident but none of them saw the vehicle that hit Jalvi. The Pernem MLA Pravin Arlekar who was also travelling from Calangute to Pernem, saw the accident and stopped his vehicle for inquiry. He summoned the police and an ambulance.

Mopa Sarpanch Subodh Mahale who was also at the accident spot claimed that over two dozen persons have been killed on the National Highway 66 in the past few months.

He sought to know why workers, who were there working on the link flyover to go to International Airport at Mopa, did not rush to the accident spot to offer help when the accident had occurred in broad daylight. He also wondered why was it that nobody noticed the vehicle that hit the victim.

The police rushed to the spot after being informed and did the panchanama.
