Labour Minister Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate on Thursday said the Employees State Insurance (ESI) hospital being set up at Mulgao in North Goa will be completed in two years.
Monserrate was speaking to the media after a meeting of the Goa Regional Board of the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) at the Secretariat in Porvorim where Labour Commissioner Levinson Martins and Dr Shubhangi Lotlikar, Administrative Director of ESIC and others were present.
Monserrate said the 150-bedded hospital will be coming up on the land of the housing board and a plan has been prepared by the ESIC headquarters and approval has been obtained to commence construction.
The minister also said that the functioning of the ESI Hospital in Margao was reviewed and found satisfactory although there is some staff shortfall. He said he along with members of the labour unions will inspect the hospital again on September 4.
Currently, there is a shortage of doctors in the hospital and we have sent a requisition to the Goa Public Service Commission to commence the process of fresh appointments, he said. He added that as a stop-gap arrangement doctors from the private sector are being hired on a contract basis because of a tie-up with hospitals.
