PORVORIM
An assistant manager from Dodamarg-Maharashtra and 16 ATMO officers have been booked by Porvorim police on charges of having siphoned off an amount of Rs 2.5 crore from 43 ATMs of various banks in the State using security codes of the ATMs.
Acting on a complaint by the manager of the Porvorim branch of the Mumbai-based company, police registered an offence the 17 accused under Sections 409, 420 and 12(B) of Indian Penal code
According to reports, the incident took place sometime prior to March 26, 2021, when the accused had committed the offence in the jurisdictions of different police stations in the State.
When this crime was noticed by the company’s manager, he notified the Porvorim Police station to register the offence.
When the Porvorim police did not register the offence, the manager petitioned the Judicial Magistrate First Class.
On hearing the arguments, the JMFC directed the Porvorim police to register the offence on November 22, 2021. The police, however, registered the offence after one-and-half months.
Porvorim Police Inspector Anant Gaonkar is investigating the case.
