500 docs to attend national meet in Belagavi

BELAGAVI
Over 500 doctors from Goa, Karnataka, Maharashtra and across the nation will participate in the 13th conference of the Karnataka State President of Indian Association of Dermatologists Venerologists & Leprologists (IADVL).

Skin specialists across India will deliver lectures on skin, hair, nail diseases, leprosy and sexually transmitted diseases.

Addressing a news conference at the KLES Convention Centre on the occasion of 13th state level conference which will be held from Saturday, Karnataka president of IADVL Dr Ravi Rathod said quacks have mushroomed across the nation and have posed a major threat not only to the medical fraternity but also to the patients.

The two-day conference ‘Cuticon KN, Belagavi 22’, which is being held at at the KLE Convention Centre will be inaugurated by Dr Prabhakar Kore. IADVL Secretary General Dr Dinesh Kumar Devraj will be present.

“Many members across the state have complained about the quacks, beauty parlours and even dentists practicing procedures that have to be practiced only by dermatologists and skin surgeons. Apart from causing damage to patients, this malpractice is also damaging the image of skin specialist and dermatologists. On Saturday we will have a tie-up with Indian Medical Association (IMA) so that the issue can be strongly handled by the Anti-Quackery Cell,” Dr Rathod said.

State president-elect Dr Prakash Kololgi said the IMA Anti-Quackery Cell can act on complaints from our life members regarding unqualified persons, misleading advertisements and also patients whose skin has been damaged by wrong treatment. “IMA will take up litigation cost and documentation work,” he said.

Giving further details, IAVDL Secretary Dr D P Jayanth said the Karnataka branch is the second largest branch in India with 1,300 members and has won national awards many times. State president-elect Dr Prakash Kololgi, organising Chairperson Dr S V Manjreakar, Dr Veeresh V D & Dr Santosh Shinde, organizing secretary is Dr Shivkumar Patil were present at the news conference.

Waste disposed off by burning behind bushes on Colva beach

MARGAOWaste was found burnt just behind the bushes on the Colva beach, indicating that waste burning is resorted to by unscrupulous elements to dispose of waste.   A visit to the site behind the business revealed that a large amount of waste has been disposed of by burning. It could not be ascertained who is responsible for burning the waste and whether the waste burnt was brought from some other place before it was set afire.
