Gearing up for the July 8 Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) hearing for South Goa, top brass of the district and police administration descended on the SGPDA parking lot on Friday evening to review the logistics, even as work on the erection of a massive rain proof pandal to accommodate 1000-1500 people on the parking lot got underway today.
Arrangements mooted at the venue of the public hearing includes a pandal with a 1000-1500 seating capacity, another pandal to cover the adjoining space between the vegetable market and the mutton and chicken stalls with a provision for a giant-size screen, around 7-8 mobile toilets to take care of sanitation, a desk for spot registrations, provision for drinking water, and regulation for traffic in and around the SGPDA market complex.
The Traffic department has proposed closure of the SGDPA mega retail market comprising of the fish, vegetable, fruit, and the meat stalls for minimum two days on July 8-9 to regulate the movement of men and traffic around the market complex.
Senior district and police officials, besides, Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) Member Secretary Dashrath Redkar, OSD to Department of Environment, Sanjeev Joglekar held a high level review meeting at the district Collectorate, chaired by district Collector, Ruchika Katyal before the officials all descended at the SGPDA parking lot to understand the ground reality.
Besides the district Collector, Katyal, district Police Chief, South SP Pankaj Kumar Singh, IPS, Additional Collector, Surendra Naik, Sub-divisional Magistrate, Margao Jyoti Kumar, Sub-divisional Police Officer, DySP Harish Madkaikar, DySP Traffic Prabodh Shirwaikar, along with Salcete mamlatdar Prataprao Gaonkar, PI Fatorda Kapil Nayak, besides GCZMA MS Dashrath Redkar and others inspected the venue.
After being briefed that that venue could accommodate as many as 1000-1500 persons at a time, the Collector directed that an additional pandal be erected in the adjoining space between the vegetable and mutton stall to facilitate people to come and register and wait for their turn.
The Collector suggested installation of a giant screen at the pandal in the adjoining space and took a review of the entry and exit points at the venue.
DySP Traffic Prabodh Shriwaikar laid bare his traffic plan in and around the market complex, saying that buses bringing people from far off place will be allowed to enter the complex to drop the people and head to the designated parking lots.
“We will put in place mobile toilets and drinking water amenities. The pandal will be rainproof. I have told the officials to put another pandal for the people with 1000 seating capacity and having a giant screen facility”, she said, adding that additional chairs will be kept ready at the venue to meet any exigencies.’
NO FOOD ARRANGEMENTS
MARGAO: South Goa district Collector Ruchika Katyal said there is no question of making food arrangements for the people since they are scheduled to speak only for 15 minutes.
In a lighter vein, the Collector said the July 8 event is not a marriage ceremony, but a public hearing which does not make mandatory for the authorities to arrange for food.
She made the comment when asked whether any provision for food will be made for the participants, especially those whose turn comes late in the night. “People will come for the hearing after having their breakfast and meals before or after the hearing after they speak for 15 minutes”, she added.
