Adivasi students will be helped to attain educational goals: Minister

Directorate of Tribal Welfare in association with United Tribals Associations Alliance (UTAA) organised 3rd Adivasi Vidhyarthi Sammelan at Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir, Ponda on Saturday. 

Minister for Tribal Welfare Govind Gaude; MLA of Ponda Ravi Naik; Chairman of the Goa State Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation Ltd Durgadas Gaude; President of United Tribals Associations Alliance (UTAA), Prakash Velip, Director of Directorate of Tribal Welfare, Triveni Velip; Director of Directorate of Art and Culture, Sagun Velip  and other dignitaries graced the occasion with their presence.

Four persons from Schedule Tribes were conferred with the 'Adivasi Pradnyawant Puraskar’ for their outstanding performance in the field of Culture, Social, Agriculture and Sports.

Padmashree Karnam Malleshwari, Vice Chancellor of Delhi Sports University and Dr Rajendra Bharud, IAS Director TRI Maharashtra State were present as the guest speakers.

Speaking on the occasion Gaude said that the Directorate of Tribal Welfare has taken the responsibility to provide monetary help to underprivileged students in realising their desired educational goals. 

He advised students to have faith in themselves which will help to overcome any hurdle in the way of achieving the set goal. He also cited success stories of prominent personalities to inspire the students.

 Meritious students from Schedule Tribes securing  top 5 ranks at Goa Board of Secondary School (SSC) and Goa Board of Higher Secondary School (Arts/Commerce/Science/Vocational)  were also felicitated.

Ravi Naik motivated  students to make best use of available resources in the field of education and shape their future.

The sammelan was organised as a part of Prerana Din in memory of late Manguesh Gaonkar and late Dilip Velip who had sacrificed their lives at the time of agitation held at Balli on May 25, 2011 for fulfilling the demands of ST Community in the State of Goa.

'Utaa Sangharsh' a book on the history of tribal community penned by Dr Uday Gaonkar was also released on the occasion.
