Claiming that Goa’s education and healthcare are better than Delhi, the BJP on Thursday said the Aam Aadmi Party, under the leadership of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, is trying to fool Goans to win the election. The party also said that AAP has given many promises to Goans which have already failed in Delhi, and such parties are political tourists who only turn out during the elections and try to bribe the voters, stated a BJP press release.
AAP, which thinks it has developed Delhi, has already failed in its performance in many ways. AAP, which criticized the BJP government on healthcare, actually has poor health infrastructure in Delhi. According to NFHS statistics Goa has done better in health infrastructure than Delhi. Goa’s Infant Mortality Rate (IMR), Neonatal Mortality Rate (NNMR), Under-5 Mortality Rate (U5MR) per 1,000 live births ranks as some of the best in the country, the BJP said in the release.
Delhi also has a higher infant mortality rate than Goa. As per annual reports on the registration of birth and deaths in Delhi, it has a 24.12 Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) where 8,823 infant deaths were reported in 2019. Delhi also has a poor Neonatal Mortality Rate (NMR) of 17.5, and an Under-Five Mortality Rate (U5MR) of 30.6.
Compared to this, Goa has 5.6 IMR in 2019-20, one of the lowest in the country. Goa stands way better in Neonatal Mortality Rate (NMR) and Under-Five Mortality Rate (U5MR) which are 5.6 and 10.6 respectively, the release adds.
Delhi even fails to ensure that every child is vaccinated for polio. Under the Double Engine government, the provision of health insurance has been a primary focus. Between 2019 to 2021, Delhi only covered 25% of households under a health insurance scheme. In contrast, in Goa, BJP has covered almost every household under the Deen Dayal Swashtya Yojana and provided up to Rs 4 lakh of insurance cover per family, helping more than 1.13 lakh households, the press release states.
Under the Deen Dayal Swasthya Yojana, the Goa government has achieved 66% coverage of households in the year 2019-2020, which is more than double the coverage achieved in Delhi, the BJP stated in the release.
The release further states that AAP’s claims about their hyped educational infrastructure in Delhi are also a farce. In Delhi, almost 1 in 5 women are illiterate, clearly signifying that the Delhi government does not focus on women.
The reason for high women's illiteracy in Delhi is that the place is unsafe for girl children, which is why so many women in Delhi refuse to attend school.
