An alert police from the Tourist Police Unit was instrumental in the rescue of a Karnataka tourist at the Calangute beach on Thursday afternoon.
The incident took place at about 3.10 pm when some tourists were swimming in the sea at Calangute.
Suraj Pawar, a Constable with the Tourist Police Unit, who was posted on the beach, noticed one tourist, Milan Ghanshyambhai Gouda, struggling in the water and rushed to alert life savers at the shore.
Life savers Kamlesh Tikkam and Sachin Kashyap rushed into the sea and pulled him ashore.
Gouda was then taken to the lifeguard tower, where he was administered first aid before being shifted to the Candolim Primary Health Centre for treatment.
