All Goa Private Bus Owners leader assaulted at Mapusa

MAPUSA

All Goa Private Bus Owners Association (AGPBOA) General Secretary Sudip Tamhankar was allegedly assaulted by a group at the KTC bus stand in Mapusa on Saturday.

The incident took place as Tamhankar along with some media persons had gone to the site to expose some private buses illegally transporting passengers from the Mapusa bus stand.

After speaking to media persons, Tamhankar was riding his two-wheeler, when he was chased by a group and his scooter was knocked down. He was then assaulted by a group.

Tamhankar later filed a police complaint in the matter and he was sent to the district hospital at Mapusa for a medical examination.

Tamhankar alleged that buses of a tours and travels company are illegally operating inter-state passenger bus services without proper registration.

“While returning from the KTC bus stand at Mapusa, I was chased and stopped by a group. They beat me up for raising the issue of vehicles plying illegally without proper registration. This incident has raised serious concerns about security,” said Tamhankar.

Police are investigating the incident and have detained seven persons in this connection.
