The Anti-Narcotics Cell of Goa Police has approached the North District and Session Court seeking cancellation of the bail granted to Israeli national Yaniv Benaim alias Atala.
The ANC has apprehended that he may involve himself in further criminal activities while also referring to the ongoing investigations and trials against him in several serious offenses registered in Goa.
Last month, the District Court had directed the Superintendent of Police and the officer of the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), Panaji, to ensure Atala’s immediate release within 24 hours.
Atala was arrested in April this year after the ANC raided his flat at Siolim and seized narcotics valued at around Rs 8.7 lakh.
The ANC has reiterated concerns that Atala’s release may pose a risk of reoffending or absconding, and hamper the ongoing investigations.
