Anti-track doubling and coal transportation activists and protestors are all bracing up to assemble outside Margao police headquarters in large numbers on Friday morning as the Police has issued notice to two prominent leaders of the ongoing agitation Abhijit Prabhudesai and Sandesh Talekar to appear before the investigating officer in connection with the Chandor midnight vigil on the intervening night of November 1-2.

While Abhijit has been told to appear before the Maina-Curtorim police station housed in the Margao district headquarters at 10.30 am, Talekar has been called to remain present before the investigation officer later in the morning.

The duo has been asked to appear before the police under section 41(A) of the CrPC in connection with the crime registered by the Maina-Curtorim police under section 143, 145, 341 and section 148 of the IPC.

In the notice issued to Goyant Kollso Naka co-convenor, Abhijit Prabhudesai, Maina-Curtorim police station in-charge, PI Shivram Vaingankar stated that it is revealed that there are reasonable grounds to question him to ascertain facts and circumstances from him, in relation to the present investigation.

While directing Abhijit to appear before PSI Prashant S Bhagat of Maina-Curtorim PS at 10:30 hours on November 27, at Maina-Curtorim Police Station, PI Vaingainkar in the notice further stated that Abhijit is directed to comply with all and/or the following directions “ that he will not commit any offence in future, he will not tamper with the evidences in the case in any manner whatsoever; will not  make any threat, inducement, or promise to any person acquainted with the fact of the case so as to dissuade him from disclosing, such facts to the court or to the police officer; will appear before the court as and when required/directed.

The notice further stated that Abhijit will join the investigation of the case as and when required and will co-operate in the investigation and that he will disclose all the facts truthfully without concealing any part relevant for the purpose of investigation to reach to the right conclusion of the case and will not allow in any manner destruction of any evidence relevant for the purpose of investigation/trial of the case.

The notice has warned that failure to attend/comply with the terms of this notice, necessary action will be initiated as per the law.

Goyant Kollso Naka activist Freddy Travasso has appealed to the people of Goa to assemble in large numbers at the Maina-Curtorim police station to express solidarity with both Abhijit and Sandesh Talekar. “Today, the police has summoned two of the five persons named in the FIR. Tomorrow, the police may call others at the police station. Let us all gather outside the Maina-Curtorim police to show our solidarity,” Freddy said.

Similar, messages and appeals did the rounds on the social media on Thursday evening with citizens making appeal to the citizens in general to turn up in large numbers at the Maina-Curtorim police station to show their solidarity with the activists.
