App-solutely unacceptable: Taximen on app-based taxis

PANAJI

The All Goa Private Taxi Association has objected to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s statement in the Assembly that an app-based taxi system is needed for the State and such a service would be given permission to operate in Goa.

"This is a move to take kickbacks from the big cab aggregators and allow them to operate in Goa,” said Sudip Tamhankar, spokesperson of the All Goa Private Taxi Association.

Tamhankar, who is also president of All Goa Private Bus Owners Association said there are different taxi operators in the State.

“Some are directly attached to a hotel, some are doing business by counter booking service and some are independent taxi operators. With the app service, there will be regulations only on normal taxi operators,” said Tamhankar, while opposing the government’s move towards app-based taxis.

Commenting on Sawant’s claims that many taxi operators are not using digital meters, Tamhankar replied: “The meters provided are faulty and it is just provided for a minister to make money from commissions.”
