OLD GOA
Keeping his promise that he would voice opposition to the Bainguinim waste treatment plant in the Assembly, Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldesai vowed that he would never allow the plant to come up at the site even as he accused the former MLA of the constituency of sleeping over the issue.
“I have accompanied the affected people to the site and have apprised myself of the situation that they are likely to face if the plant comes up there,” Faldesai said.
It may be recalled that the MLA had led a morcha along with the people on June 19, voicing his strong opposition to the plant.
“There are about 2,000 flats in the vicinity which are homes to 6,000-7,000 people. Besides, there are the churches of Old Goa, the Mutt, schools, hospitals, and Carambolim Lake, and all this will be destroyed. So, we want that the plant to be shifted from that particular site and set up in any place where there is no habitation,” Faldesai said.
“The previous MLA was sleeping but I am active and I will see to that the plant never comes up at the site,” he added.
“What happened before, what the MLA did, what the panchayat did is not my concern. It appears there was some dealing between them which are why the plant was allowed to come up there,” he further added.
