Athawale condemns attack on Kankonkar

PANAJI

Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale has condemned the attack on social activist and ST leader Rama Kankonkar while urging the government to take strict action against the assailants.  

Addressing a press conference in Panaji, Athawale said that attack on a ST leader is highly condemnable and such things should not happen. 

“This is not acceptable. It is not right to assault or attack a ST community leader. It is the responsibility of the State government to ensure that action is taken,” he said.

Athawale said that the police have already arrested the assailants and that justice will be delivered. “The government and police are working on the case,” he said.

Kankonkar was brutally assaulted by a group of six people in Panaji on September 18. Kankonkar is currently undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College and Hospital.

Police have arrested a total eight people, all history sheeters in connection with the case.
