In another major narcotics seizures of the year, the Anti-Narcotic Cell (ANC) of Goa Police arrested a Nigerian national and seized high-grade cocaine and ecstasy worth Rs 2.53 crore during a late-night raid at Siolim.
The accused, identified as Chigozie Innocent Nzedigwe (24), was arrested from a rented premises at Gublawada, Oxel, Siolim, on Wednesday night following the raid.
The ANC officials said that Nzedigwe, who had been out on bail since October 2024 after a previous arrest by the ANC, was found in possession of 1.16 kg of cocaine valued at Rs 2.32 crore and 106.2 gms of ecstasy powder worth Rs 21.24 lakh in the international market.
The ANC team also seized a two-wheeler scooter allegedly used by the accused for supplying and distributing the narcotics. The magistrate remanded hin to seven days of police custody.
According to police, the ANC had maintained close technical and human surveillance on Nzedigwe after his release from jail. Acting on specific intelligence, the team launched a raid and recovered the drugs from his residence.
Police said that further investigation is underway to trace the source of the contraband and uncover the financial trail involved in the operation.
The raid was led by PI Sajith Pillai, assisted by Head Constable Umesh Dessai and Constables Godish Goltekar and Venkatesh Mainkar, under the on-field supervision of DySP ANC Nerlon Albuquerque and the overall leadership of SP ANC Sunita Sawant.
