A commando of Anti-Terrorism Squad of Goa Police suffered a serious physical injury during the ongoing counter-terrorism drill at the new, under construction super specialty block of Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim on Tuesday morning.
The counter-terrorism exercise is being conducted jointly by NSG and Goa Police and includes around 500 NSG commandos and 1,000 Goa Police personnel.
ATS commando Jaidev Sawant fractured one of his legs during the mock bomb drill which was being undertaken as a part of the three day-long counter-terrorism drill scheduled to conclude on Wednesday.
The mock grenade exploded right next to Sawant injuring his leg.
A similar exercise was undertaken on Monday at the Goa Assembly complex.
Shockingly, the authorities were woefully unprepared to handle such an exigency with no ambulance being deputed on the spot. The security personnel writhed in pain as the police officers in-charge reportedly scrambled for means to transport him to the casualty ward of GMC.
Sources have disclosed that Sawant was later admitted to the casualty ward of GMC and underwent an emergency operation.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant attended the mock counter terror exercise Gandiv-2 demonstration conducted jointly by multiple agencies including NSG, Goa ATS, Indian Navy, the Coast Guard and Goa Administration.
