Goa's premier health institution, the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) at Bambolim got a major infrastructural boost with a new state-of-the-art Cath Lab and Coronary Care Unit (CCU) inaugurated in its super-speciality block.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane who did the honours said it was a tribute to Dr Manjunath Desai, a senior consultant who had got the GMCH's cardiac unit toddling and who died a few months ago.
"Today, I had the privilege of inaugurating the state-of-the-art Cath Labs and CCU wing, a loving tribute to the late Shri. Dr. Manjunath Desai. These cutting-edge labs are set to significantly reduce the waiting period from one month to just 10 days," Rane said in a message posted on 'X' (formerly Twitter).
Rane also registered three patients with coronary artery disease to undergo angiography and angioplasty procedures at the new facility.
The new facility is equipped with the most advanced machinery and medical equipment enabling meticulous surgeries and allowing cardiologists to diagnose and treat cardiovascular diseases using minimally invasive methods.
The development will also ensure that waiting time for patients for these heart-related corrective procedures at the GMCH will now reduce from a month to just 10 days.
According to Rane, the new cardiac care unit ranks among the best competing with top hospitals in the country with provision for free stents, medication, coils and pacemakers.
