Carmona Panchayat has launched high resolution long range CCTV surveillance cameras on main roads to keep a check on garbage dumping and criminal activities
Sarpanch Allywn Jorge said even though Carmona had a well managed garbage system in place, it was a victim of illicit dumping and roadside littering of garbage mainly by migrants and tenants staying within the village and also other neighbouring villages which attract a lot of tourists.
“We had a practice of cleaning up the roads on a weekly basis which was a great headache for us and we have imposed hefty fines on defaulters in the past. We have installed these high-end cameras with long-range recording capacity which will help us to monitor garbage dumping & also any criminal activities so that the people of this village can relax due to this additional feature of Carmona panchayat to have online monitoring of the main village roads,” he said.
Jorge added: “We have plans to monitor the entire main road from Cavelossim border to Orlim border and also the entire beach road. Other villages also should follow our example whereby we can exchange CCTV footage if required for any investigation.”
The Sarpanch said it was a persistent demand of Gram Sabha members to put up CCTV cameras on the roads to check for garbage dumping which was bringing a bad name to the village.
