Stating that the BJP-led government has no concern for Goa or its people, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Wednesday said the recently passed controversial Goa Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill is an election gimmick with an eye on the migrant votes.
“The BJP has always been using the issue of illegal houses belonging to migrants to its advantage in the elections. They used to warn the migrants that if they did not vote for the party then their houses would be demolished. The Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill is another game plan to woo the migrants towards them,” said Sanjay Barde, General Secretary of NCP.
He said changing the name of the bill will not alter the real intention of the government and the sons of the soil will never forget and forgive the BJP for bringing the bill.
He said over 15,000 mundkarial applications for ownership claims on houses were pending before the mamlatdars but the government had done very little to resolve these cases.
“The government is only trying to mislead the people. Will they be able to regularise the houses before the code of conduct comes into play? The same government had promised 10,000 jobs to our youth. Have they managed to do it,” he said.
Slamming the government for rushing through so many bills in one day without any discussion, Barde said it only showed how the BJP had no respect for legislative processes enshrined in the Constitution.
“The bills that have been passed should have been issued at least 48 hours in advance to the Opposition MLAs so that they could study the bills and hold a healthy debate on the floor of the House,” he said.
The NCP general secretary also condemned the government for passing an amendment to the Goa Public Gambling Bill.
