The State government on Tuesday approved the formation of a special Mhadei River Water Dispute Cell to follow up on the Mhadei River water dispute issue.
Water Resources Minister (WRD) Chief Engineer Pramod Badami issued the order constituting the Mhadei River Water Dispute Cell to be headed by WRD Executive Engineer Dilip Naik, who is closely associated with the case as well as planning of projects of the Mhadei basin and considered an authority on Mhadei-related issues.
The order states that the office of the Executive Engineer IX along with its sub-division will now function under the Mhadei River Water Dispute Cell and the executive engineer IX will now be designated as executive engineer (Mhadei Cell).
The executive engineer (Mhadei Cell) will coordinate with the office of the advocate general on all matters relating to the Mhadei River Water Dispute Cell, the order states.
The concept of a special dedicated cell had been mooted by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and WRD Minister Felipe Neri Rodrigues.
During the recent Assembly session, Sawant had assured to immediately constitute a special dedicated cell to follow up on the Mhadei River water dispute.
