Bribery charges: PI, hawaldar suspended; KRPS gets new PI

PANAJI

Police Inspector Sunil Gudlar and Hawaldar Hussain, both attached to the Konkan Railway Police Station (PS), have been suspended less than 48 hours after their arrest on bribery charges. The suspension orders were issued by Goa Police on Wednesday.

The duo was arrested late Monday night in a trap laid by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) wherein they were caught red-handed accepting Rs 25,000 bribe from a licenced Belagavi-based goat meat trader.

According to the ACB, the PI and hawaldar had allegedly demanded Rs 2 lakh from the trader besides a monthly payment of Rs 25,000, to allow him to continue his business activities in Goa. After their arrest, both Gudlar and Hussain were remanded to police custody for interrogation on Tuesday.

In a related development, the department has appointed PI Rahul Naik -- posted at GRP -- as the new in-charge of the Konkan Railway PS through a separate order issued by Superintendent of Police (PHQ) Nelson Albuquerque. Meanwhile, PI Sarvesh Gaddi, who was awaiting posting, has been given the charge at Petition Cell in Panaji.
