South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha has cautioned the government that the Rs 300 crore budget allocation for Goa should not be utilized for enjoyment, but to redress the sufferings of the people of Goa.
In his reaction to the Union Budget, Sardinha said the general public is disappointed with the budget, terming it insipid, when expectations of various sectors of the economy were high from this year’s budget.
On the Rs 300 crore budgetary allocation for Goa coinciding with the 60th Year of liberation, Sardinha said: “The funds should be utilized to redress the sufferings of the people hit by Covid pandemic and to build infrastructure which is at present done by huge borrowings”.
Saying that the government has given some tax rebates with concession such as no filing of returns for people above 75 years, whose only income is a pension, Sardinha said: “This section comprises of only 2.3 per cent of the total population”.
Saying there are no incentives are given for the farmers, the MP said the budget has levied cess on petrol and diesel being used by the farmers.
