Allaying the apprehensions of the people of Cuncolm on pollution at the Cuncolim Industrial Estate, Environment Minister Nilesh Cabral has said the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) will not hesitate in shutting down the polluting units.
The minister issued the warning at a power department function at Cuncolim when local MLA Clafacio Dias raised the burning issue of pollution at the Cuncolim Industrial Estate.
Cabral said the GSPCB had found a couple of fish meal and fish processing units polluting the environment at Cuncolim, warning that the Board will come down hard on the polluting units across the state. “If required, these units will be sealed. There’s no question of not initiating action against the erring units. The GSPCB will examine all the wrongdoings and deal with a heavy hand against the illegalities,” Cabral warned.
