Minister for Public Works Department Nilesh Cabral took a dig at the political class lamenting that if citizens are deprived of water for even 4-5 hours daily, it reflects a lack of efficiency in the system.
He also emphasized the need for people’s cooperation to achieve the government's goal of providing water supply for extended hours.
“If citizens cannot be provided water for 4-5 hours every day, it indicates the political class is not efficient enough to run the system. If we as political class cannot do so and still set a goal to provide water 24 hours, we cannot run the system efficiently,” he said while replying to media queries about his own assurance to the people of Goa about providing water for 4-5 hours from April 15.
He further sought collective efforts urging people to cooperate with the government to achieve the goal within a short span of time.
Many parts of the State, particularly the northern coastal belt and Porvorim are currently reeling under acute water crisis owing to the breakdown of pipelines or breakdown of the Tillari raw water supply, etc.
Reacting to the Opposition’s flak over Home Minister Amit Shah’s silence on Mhadei during the latter’s public address on Sunday; Cabral said that the issue is not to be discussed only when Shah comes to Goa as it is being taken up with the Centre on a regular basis.
Earlier, Cabral had said he was aware of water shortage in various parts of the state. He said his departrment is working on solutions in very area and that from April 15 houiseholds can expect 4-5 hours of assured water supply.
