After an employee in a Education Department's zonal office died due to Covid infection the Goa Forward party on Friday demanded that state government should suspend bio-metric attendance mechanisms at its offices until the Covid-19 pandemic is over.
GF has suggested to continue with the muster roll system. "One infected person using biometric machine can infect the entire office staff and public coming in contact with him," Goa Forward Employees Forward Convener John Nazareth said.
Informing media that one employee in the Edcuation Department's zonal office has died due to Covid infection, GFP Employees Forward Convener John Nazareth said that at least 12 other employees working in the office have also tested positive.
Nazareth demanded that in this difficult situation biometric attendance system must be suspended as it could be one of the causes of the virus spreading.
Nazareth has already sent a letter in this regard to the Chief Secretary.
Meanwhile Goa Forward has also written to the government for the restoration of DDSSY (health Card) scheme to the desiring government employees.
Nazareth informed that the DDSSY scheme provides opportunity to those government employees to take treatement with specialised doctors in superspeciality hospitals for major illnesses like cancer, heart disease, etc.
He said that in the absence of the scheme the government servants and their family members have no other alternative but to exhaust their life-time savings for treatment in private hospitals.
Nazareth alleged that the benefits of free treatment in private hospitals with the present scheme is mostly availed by migrants and government servants are left with no other alternative but to spend their life-time savings or borrow loans to undertake treatment.
