Carmona p’yat’s public grievance fortnight kick-starts today

MARGAO
Carmona Village Panchayat’s initiative “Public grievance fortnight” will kick-start from Monday, giving a platform for members of the public to approach the panchayat with their grievances.

Sarpanch Allwyn Jorge, who has resumed office after leave, has said the panchayat at its meeting had resolved to have the ‘Public Grievance Fortnight’, starting from January 18-31 purely dedicated to public grievances.

He said public will be encouraged to approach the panchayat with their various grievances like water, electricity, access or any other issues so that the same can be addressed by the panchayat. “As a local body, we want to tackle all the problems wherever possible. If grievances require government assistance, the same will be pursued through the local MLA Churchill Alemao who has promised all help,” Jorge said.

The sarpanch pointed out that water supply and electricity supply, besides non-functional streetlights, inadequate electricity department staff for Carmona, poor 220 volts distribution network in the village are major issues in the village as existing poles are structurally damaged and their conductors overstretched which need to be replaced on a priority basis by the Electricity Department.

“Issues of people having problems regarding their access will also be addressed wherever possible. This initiative is being taken up on a war footing as the term of the present panchayat and the MLA is almost in its final year,” he added.

Jorge said water supply pipelines in the interior roads were put up decades back which are partly blocked causing water supply hardships to the villagers. “It takes about four days for water to reach our taps after restoration if a shutdown is carried out at Selaulim,” he added.

The sarpanch reiterated that his initiative to work closely with the MLA in trying to resolve all issues before the Assembly elections so that no one is at fault for any unresolved issues in the village.
