Case booked over fraudulent use of GCA logo for league

PORVORIM
Porvorim police have registered an offence against an unknown person over the fraudulent use of the Goa Cricket Association (GCA) logo to advertise a league tournament.

According to Porvorim Police Inspector Rahul Parab, a complaint was filed by Adv. Siddesh Raghunath Prabhudesai, legal representative of the Secretary of Goa Cricket Academy against an unknown person for misrepresenting himself to be Secretary of the GCA and fraudulently making use of the GCA logo which is a unique identification feature of the GCA to advertise a league tournament to be held on December 10.

The person has been accused of identity theft of GCA logo and further circulating the advertisement on social media, thereby misleading the general public.

Porvorim Police therefore registered an FIR under Section 66-C of IT Act 2000 and further investigation is in progress.

PI Rahul Parab has appealed to the public not to fall prey to fake advertisements regarding tournaments and not to pay any money for registration. “These are cyber fraudsters. The fraudster has named the tournament as Goa Super League,” said Parab.
