The seating corporator and BJP loyalist since the Parrikar era, Pundalik Raut Dessai was one of the 11 candidates who withdrew their nominations from the Corporations of City of Panaji elections.
A total of 95 candidates are now in the fray for 30 wards of CCP after 11 candidates withdrew their nominations.
"I was not willing to contest the elections this time and decided to support a good candidate. However, as the candidate was decided at the last minute I had just filled my nomination so that other candidates should not get elected unopposed. As my group candidate nominations have been accepted I decided to withdraw my nomination," said Pundalik Raut Dessai.
Many seating corporators' political future is expected to be affected due to ward delimitations.
Meanwhile, a total of 423 candidates will test their luck in the local body elections scheduled on March 20.
On the last day of nominations, many withdrew their nominations.
A total of 273 candidates will contest from the six municipalities “ Bicholim (68 contesting “ 8 withdrawals), Valpoi (23 contesting “ 10 withdrawals), Pernem (37 contesting “ 8 withdrawals), Cuncolim (66 contesting “ 1 withdrawal), Curchorem (48 contesting “ 11 withdrawals), Canacona (31 contesting “ 11 withdrawals).
