Authorities of the Krishnadas Shama Central Library at EDC Patto Plazza have been in a spot of bother over the last couple of days after the roof of the six-storeyed building began leaking, posing a threat to invaluable books, maps and documents in its collection.
The roof began leaking on Wednesday but due to the continuously wet weather, very little could be done to make amends. On Friday, a team of the Public Works Department (PWD) headed by an Executive Engineer, conducted a site inspection and are expected to execute temporary repairs to plug the leak on Saturday.
Curator of the Central Library, C L Tandel told 'The Goan' that chances of damage to books and other valuable documents have been eliminated with precautionary measures. "The area of leakage has been isolated and as a measure of abundant caution the nearby shelves have been covered with tarpaulin," he said.
Tandel expects the PWD team to set things right hopefully by this weekend if the weather improves and it is conducive for workers to execute the work since the roof is at a height of more than six floors.
