Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday evening clarified that the central government had no intention to send the decommissioned aircraft carrier Viraat to Goa, adding that nothing had been finalised in the matter.
" Viraat has been purchased by a particular party and our MP and Union Minister Shripad Naik requested that since Goa is a tourism destination, getting Viraat to Goa would boost tourism and attract a lot of people to Goa.”
“This proposal was at a very primary stage and while a NOC is being requested by the party, we have suggested that the party seeks an NOC from the Goa Pollution Control Board, Defence Ministry, Captain of Ports and all other departments and authorities concerned.”
“Only after obtaining these clearances, the party can then approach us for this project or to move the ship here. As of now, we have only given one letter to Shripad Naik that the process can be taken forward if the NOCs are taken and this is a project that we are looking for in the long run," said Sawant.
