OLD GOA
The demolition of an illegal compound wall at Chimbel was forced to be postponed after the PWD’s demolition squad failed to turn up at the site last week.
A local, Ajay Kholkar, whose complaint had led the Chimbel panchayat to issue the demolition notice, informed The Goan that he along with several other villagers remained present at the allotted time of demolition.
“However, the demolition squad did not turn up even after 12.30 pm which forced the Chimbel panchayat authorities to postpone the same,” Kholkar informed while questioning the absence of the demolition squad despite the deputy collector giving a notice of the same well in advance.
“The deputy collector had issued notice on July 9 directing PWD to provide a team of 10 labourers, JCB machine, truck along with necessary equipment to demolish the illegal structure,” Kholkar pointed out.
“But, despite the presence of other authorities like the Chimbel panchayat secretary, BDO representative, Old Goa police and Jt Mamlatdar, there was no sign of the demolition squad which led to the postponement,” a disappointed Kholkar informed and questioned the lack of coordination among the various departments.
“All authorities should have come to the site with the demolition squad,” Kholkar added.
He further stated that the Chimbel panchayat will now sent a report to the Tiswadi BDO citing the absence of the demolition squad due to which the demolition could not be carried out and to issue fresh date for the same.
