Bowing down to demands of villagers, the Chimbel panchayat has decided to convene its ordinary gram sabha on October 24.
The decision to this effect was taken by Sarpanch Manisha Chopdekar on Wednesday, after some villagers questioned the sarpanch over her refusal to hold the gram sabha.
Around 500 villagers had also signed a petition demanding that the ordinary gram sabha be held at the earliest.
The villagers had opined that the last ordinary gram sabha was held way back in February and it was high time that the panchayat held the gram sabha so that important issues like project in Provedoria land and panchayat decision to spend Goa Liberation fund on renovation of panchayat ghar, among others, could be taken up.
The agenda for the gram sabha includes to read and confirm the proceedings of the previous gram sabha held on August 15, and to discuss on developmental proposals received from the gram sabha members.
The panchayat has given a time limit up to 12 noon on October 20 for villagers to submit proposals in writing.
However, a local Ajay Kholkar has raised objections to the agenda in which it is stated that reading and confirmation of proceedings of August 15 gram sabha would be taken up.
“The August 15 gram sabha was a special gram sabha and not an ordinary one. The last ordinary gram sabha was held in February this year and minutes of that meeting should be read and confirmed,” Kholkar pointed out.
