A group of concerned citizens have warned the State government about the perils of organising the Carnival float parade and other related festivities amidst the Covid-19 pandemic and sought that the festival plans be cancelled.
Pointing out that the mother of all carnivals at Rio de Janeiro itself has been postponed indefinitely, the group wrote to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and demanded that Goa also cancel the celebrations.
The letter says holding the parade in Goa will attract large participation from Covid affected States of Maharashtra and Karnataka and possibly be a super spread of the dreaded Coronavirus.
The letter signed by one Nilesh Gomes and Socorro Menezes among others has also been marked to Deputy Chief Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar who holds Tourism, the Health Minister and the Chief Secretary.
