MARGAO
Smiles lit the faces of the Margao Municipal Council as the civic body has finally received a couple of bids for the fire prevention project at the Sonsodo waste management shed.
In fact, after making a submission at the High Court on Tuesday morning that the MMC has received bids for the project to put a fire prevention system at Sonsodo, Chief Officer Gaurish Sankhwalkar along with Municipal engineer Manoj Arsekar and other officials were closeted in the Municipality to open the technical bids received for the project.
At the last date of hearing, the High Court had directed the Margao Municipality to submit the status on the fire system project at Sonsodo. Sources pointed out that the MMC submitted to the High Court that that fire prevention system project is right on the track, assuring that the work order will be issued to the successful bidder after opening of the bids.
The fire prevention system project has been hanging fire since April when the MMC had submitted an action plan in the High Court on April 10 last. The Action plan was submitted after the High Court had expressed concern over the raging fires at the Sonsodo waste management shed, causing pollution and health hazard to the residents staying in the immediate neighbourhood of the plant.
