The frequent skirmishes between taxi operators and app-based taxi aggregators have finally led to the State administration taking a tough stance with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant holding a high-level meeting with top police officials on Tuesday and instructing the force to deal with such incidents with an iron hand.
Sawant who was briefing the media after Wednesday's cabinet meeting expressed serious concern over the recent incident at Varca.
"The police have been given strict instructions to take a stringent approach in dealing with any such law and order violations involving taxi operators," Sawant said, adding that tarnishing of Goa's image as a safe tourist destination will not be tolerated.
Sawant also said that comprehensive reforms in the State's taxi service system are currently a work in progress and eventually all taxi operations will be brought under app-based aggregator platforms to improve accountability, transparency and quality of service for both locals and tourists.
