The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) has granted CRZ clearance to the proposed development of Cola-Saleri village in Canacona taluka as an Integrated Modern Coastal Fishing Village, under the Central government initiative.

The proposal, mooted by the fisheries department includes construction of a floating jetty and upgradation of key fishing infrastructure.  The plan also provides for floating pontoon and gangway facilities along the Saleri River to ease boat access and operations.

As per the proposal, the project includes repair and refurbishment of the existing fishing ramp, reconstruction of a net-mending shed, and desilting activities, along with the installation of a floating jetty measuring approximately 40 metres by 3 metres.

“After detailed discussion the Authority decided to approve the project,” reads the minutes of the meeting.

The project is part of efforts to modernise traditional fishing infrastructure and improve facilities for local fishing communities under Centre’s Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).

The site falls within ecologically sensitive Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) areas. As per CZMP 2011 classification, the survey plot lies within the river no-development zone (NDZ) under CRZ-III, with parts affected by a 50-metre mangrove buffer zone classified as CRZ-IA. A portion of the site is also marked as a fishermen community complex.

The proposal notes that certain components, including the floating jetty and gangway, extend into the intertidal area classified under CRZ-IB, making environmental clearances crucial before execution.
