In a recent session of the legislative assembly, concerns were raised about the non-functional state of coastal boats near the Siolim bridge in the Siolim Constituency. This issue was brought to light through a starred question tabled by Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo.
Responding to the query, CM Pramod Sawant acknowledged that two interceptor boats allocated to the Siolim Coastal Security Police Station have been non-functional since July 20, 2021.
These include one 5-ton interceptor boat and one 12-ton interceptor boat.
Regarding the fate of these boats, the government has decided to condemn them due to having surpassed their expected lifespan and being economically unfeasible to repair. As a result, there are no plans to undertake repairs on these boats.
Furthermore, it was revealed that currently, only one coastal boat, named "M.V. Chandreshwar Boat," is operational in the state. This boat is primarily stationed either at Panjim Jetty or Vasco harbor and is effectively utilized for patrolling the Goan coastline. It plays a crucial role in maintaining security under the jurisdiction of the Siolim Coastal Security Police Station, following a weekly patrolling pattern.
In response to queries about when Siolim Coastal Police might receive a replacement boat, it was disclosed that the Department of Home has recently procured five new High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) boats.
One of these HDPE boats has already been allocated to the Siolim Coastal Security Police Station. This allocation aims to enhance river and sea operations despite operational limitations.
The government's steps aim to address concerns over coastal security and operational readiness in Siolim and efforts are to be maintained in effective policing along Goa's coastline.
