There appears to be confusion over the Panjim Carnival parade with the District Administration claiming to fix the route from Dona Paula to Miramar while the Corporation of the City of Panaji wants it to move the parade to the old traditional route from Mandovi Hotel to Kala Academy.
It is pertinent to note that the Panaji MLA Atanasio Monserrate has written to the government to hold the parade along the old route.
The Panjim carnival committee and collectorate held a meeting on Wednesday.
"I have received the minutes of the meeting and in that, the route of the carnival parade is specified as Miramar to Dona Paula which is not acceptable to us," said CCP Mayor Uday Madkaikar.
The collectorate office, however, claimed that their office has not received any communication for any changes related to the Carnival parade route.
While stressing about the parade from Mandovi Hotel to Kala Academy, Mayor Madkaikar said that it is easy for people to watch the parade on this route, and also local businessmen in Panaji get some income when the parade is held on the route.
"If the route is not changed we will not participate in the carnival," the Mayor warned.
