Cong protests, demands action against police officials for atrocities on villagers

In protest of brut police action by police officials on Shel-Melauli villagers, Congress leaders led by Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat and Girish Chodankar held demonstration outside police headquarters in Panaji.

Congress demanded immediate action against police officials involved in action against villagers. Congress also demanded the immediate release of all those arrested agitators. In a memorandum, the Congress leader also demanded a complete withdrawal of police force from Shel-Melauli village.

Mahila Congress president Pratima Coutinho, Indian Youth Congress, Goa president Varad Mardolkar, Swati Kerkar, and other Congress workers marched on to the police headquarters.

Digambar Kamat said that the Congress party has submitted a memorandum to DGP with a demand for justice to Shel-Melauli villagers.

GPCC President Girish Chodankar warned that the party will launch a State-wide agitation if government fails to stop atrocities against the people of Goa.

CM accused of directing attack on women 

MARGAO: Condemning the police atrocities on the women at Melauli, Goa Forward women’s wing has charged that the attack on the women at Melauli was directed by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
Goa Forward women president Adv Ashma said the shameful act of walking upon elderly women protesters by PI Sagar Ekoskar was nothing short of shameful and horrifying. Is this so-called development in Goa? Ashma wondered, while demanding to know whether the Chief Minister would have taken the onus if the concerned elderly lady had died on Wednesday.
