Congress asks SEC to come clear on delimitation, reservation for civic polls

PANAJI
Goa Congress general secretary and spokesperson Amarnath Panjikar on Tuesday called upon the State Election Commission(SEC) to come clear on the delimitation and reservation for the upcoming municipal polls.

Panjikar alleged that the SEC is working at the behest of the BJP government and that this is the reason for announcing the three-month delay in municipal elections to 11 municipal councils and the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP), till April.

"If BJP has no hidden agenda behind this decision, then the municipal administration and SEC should come clean on reservation and delimitation. So, the candidates will get enough time to plan their election process and strategies," Panjikar said.

He alleged that BJP is attempting to undertake delimitation and reservation to benefit its candidates.

“There are infights within BJP candidates over delimitation and reservation, and to settle these skirmishes, they require time. Hence, this political gimmick has been carried out by BJP," Panjikar accused.

The Congressman rubbished SEC’s claim attributing the delay to safety concerns during the pandemic and pointed out that the same body recently conducted the Zilla Panchayat polls when the Covid-19 situation in the state was much more grave.
