PANAJI: Amid news of a leadership change, the Congress high command has summoned several senior Goa leaders to Delhi today for a high-level meeting.
South Goa MP Viriato Fernandes, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, Aldona MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira, Quepem MLA Altone D’Costa, GPCC chief Amit Patkar, and senior leader Girish Chodankar have been called for discussions. The meeting will be chaired by AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal and attended by Goa in-charge Manikrao Thakare and party spokesperson Anjali Nimbalkar, sources said.
According to the sources the meeting is called to discuss on possible leadership change in the State Unit. There has been a move to replace Patkar with Girish Chodankar, a former GPCC chief.
However, there is strong resentment against Chodankar’s return as party chief with several block presidents openly expressing their views before Thakare.
The 38-year old Patkar was appointed as GPCC chief, replacing Chodankar, in April 2022 following party’s debacle in Assembly elections.
